Howe Becomes First Professor of Metallurgy in U.S

Henry Marion Howe became the first professor of metallurgy in the U.S., and as a member of the School of Mines, played a leading role in establishing the high temperature part of the Fe-C phase diagram, the scientific basis for control of iron and steel.
