Oct 19 2012

The inaugural Arthur Nowick Graduate Student Award will be presented at the MRS Awards Presentation from 6:30-8:00 pm on Wednesday, November 28, during the Fall 2012 MRS Meeting in Boston.

The award honors the late Dr. Arthur Nowick and his lifelong commitment to teaching and mentoring students in materials science. Dr. Nowick spent the main part of his career as a Professor of Metallurgy and Materials Science at Columbia University in the Henry Krumb School of Mines, which ultimately became part of the School of Engineering and Applied Science. At the time of his retirement to emeritus status in 1993, he held the Henry Marion Howe Professorship.

This award will be presented to the GSA finalist who shows particular promise as a future teacher and mentor, and will consist of a plaque and $500.

The Awards Presentation is open to all meeting attendees. There is also a subsequent Awards Reception from 8:00-9:00, but attendance is by invitation only. For details, please see MRS: Graduate Student Awards
