Video: Visit to Bayside High School

Paper: Materials Science & Engineering Outreach Programs, Siu-Wai Chan & Brian Flinn
Journal of Materials Education, Vol. 27 (1-2); 65-74 (2005)

On Friday May 17, 2013, Prof. Siu-Wai Chan and Materials Science students, Mr. Wei Shen and Mr. Haoyu Wang, visited Bayside High School in Queens, NY. Mrs. Palm Ng, a participating high school teacher, had taken part in Prof. Chan's "Research Experience for Teachers" lab during the summers of 2008 and 2009.

"We gave theatrical demonstrations on materials science concepts (how mechanical properties changes with temperatures, how different materials have thermal conductivities whereas porous ceramics are used in space shuttles for thermal insulation) and materials advances that improve our daily lives (giga-hz transistors and gorilla glass in our cell phones)." - Prof. Chan
