New Faculty: Harish Bhat

Harish Bhat joins the APAM Department as the new the Chu Assistant Professor of Applied Mathematics at Columbia University.

He received the Ph.D. in Control and Dynamical Systems from Caltech in 2005. His thesis work involved problems in the theory of shock waves. While at Caltech, he began collaborating with (then grad student) Ehsan Afshari and Professor Ali Hajimiri in the Electrical Engineering department.

Prior to arriving at Caltech, he received the AB in Mathematics from Harvard in 2000. His research interests include (1) the modeling, analysis, and numerical simulation of dynamical systems and (2) wave propagation in discrete and/or inhomogeneous media.
