Recognition of Columbia Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics

APAM's graduate program in Applied Mathematics has produced many outstanding Ph.D students over the years, who have gone on to successful and influential careers in academia, government and in the private sector. For historical reasons, students’ training was recognized as an Applied Mathematics concentration within the Applied Physics Ph.D program.

With support from SEAS and the Columbia University leadership, Columbia’s Applied Mathematics Ph.D program has recently won New York State approval of an officially designated Ph.D in Applied Mathematics. This recognition reflects the ever-increasing  importance of the field of Applied Mathematics and its impact across the Physical Sciences, Engineering, the Biological and Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences, and the broad impact of the program on graduate education in SEAS and Columbia.
