Boozer hosts U.S./Japan JIFT Workshop

Oct 17 1996

Prof. Allen H. Boozer and Masao Okamoto organized the U. S./Japan JIFT Workshop on Advanced Confinement Concepts and Theory Focused on Stellarators and Other Helical Systems, held from October 14-17, 1996, at Columbia University.

Research on helical systems is being intensified in both Japan and the United States. The Large Helical Device (LHD) is approaching completion in Japan. The U.S. magnetic fusion program has a renewed interest in confinement concepts other than traditional tokamaks and a particular interest in stellarators. The focus of the workshop will be on discussions of the physics and research opportunities in helical systems.
