Prof. Leon Lidofsky (right) and Prof. Herbert Goldstein (left) were featured in New York Times article "Americans Puzzled about Iraq's Goal" by Walter Sullivan.

Abstract: "Despite Iraq's contention that the nuclear reactor that was destroyed by Israel was purely for research, American specialists remain baffled as to its real purpose, noting that its reported power rating of 40 megawatts is not typical of research installations. Academic research reactors tend to be smaller than those used for power production. According to Dr. Leon J. Lidofsky, professor of nuclear science and engineering at Columbia University, the designated power of the Iraqi reactor was more like that of the reactor with which India is said to have produced plutonium for its atomic bomb".
